Parents sacrifice a lot to have their children perform well in school, and eventually go to university. Infact a college degree is a desirable qualification, and a real pride in any family.
It is during the period, when young peop;e, now going into maturity, begin to enjoy life away from the eyes of their parents. They have plenty of freedom, and mix with each other without the restriction of their parents' presence and intrusion.
Over the years, it has been noticed that the young people who join universities, and other colleges, tend to acquire expensive taste, which require lots of money. Unfortunately, not all parents are able to afford the newly-acquired tastes of their children. But this is not just limited to the children of the have-nots. Infact the children or the rich are even more notorious.
The only, and preferred manner in which these girls get money is through prostitution. The boys do not have much of an option, but can be pimps or become lovers to sugar mummies.
What is even sadder is that there are many people who are ready to take advantage of the situation. In most casec, these are people old enough to be great-grandfathers of the girls.....but they have the money. That there is a threat of HIV/AIDS has not stopped the practise.
The Campus is a place for easy sex. It is a place where young people turn to drink and drugs. Cases of lesbianism and homosexuality are known to abound in the campus.
Does this mean that there is no parental guidance? Have parents forgotten their role in bringing up their children? Has society failed in it's duty, in providing guidance and leadership? What ever the reasons, ther simply isn't any excuse, to allow this to continue. Something needs to be done, and the sooner the better.
